San Franciscan duo Cassette Tapes have taken the bold move of debuting their first single ‘Fall Apart’ just a few days into 2018, which we hope already promises more sparkly, dream-pop-meets-R&B sounds to come throughout the rest of the year. There’s really very little to know about this new project at the moment, other than the aforementioned location and the members’ shortened names: Jackson and Parker. As for the song, it’s one of bad habits, making excuses - “I don’t know any different, I don’t know any better” - and that circle of self-compromising behaviour. Through the gentle sway of the track’s pastel-coloured electronica, we’re able to imagine the softly-spoken protagonist turning over these issues in his mind, in a state of searching. - HT
